So i was on 10mg tab west of prednisone, 6 tabs for 7 days, then 5 tabs once daily followed by 4, 3,2 1. This was on early november.

Now i am on the 10mg tab west of 2 tabs 3 times a day for 7 days, then 2 tabs twice daily for 7 days, then 2 tabs daily for 7 days.

This is all due to sudden hearing loss on my left ear. My question is should i continue to take Prednisone even though i took it two months ago? isn't it bad? PLease help me!!!

Thanks

definitely definitely definitely take the prednisone. You don't want to mess around when it comes to your hearing (or breathing or vision etc). Prednisone gets a bad rap for a couple reasons. Some of its possible side effects include mood swings, blood sugar increase, and weight gain. Also, if taken over a long period of time it can put a person more at risk for osteoporosis. But prednisone can do a lot of great things too, and in your situation the pros vastly outweigh the cons.

i do have to agree here with what the others stated about taking what the doc just rxed for you. the thing about pred is it is one of the MOST widely used types of anti inflammatories used for a TON of different types of conditons. my son is on 5mgs every single day to help stave off rejection of a transplanted liver. unfortunetly for him, this is going to be a lifelong situation. but used the way your doc has Rxed it for you really should not be of any real lasting problems for you.

what i would like to know here is did this pred actually work when you took it before or did you really get no real good response from it? depending upon the previous response and with this round really would dictate whether or not your ear problem is stemming from some type of an inflammatory response vs something else entirely possibley? when simply using pred at all to try and treat any condition, if it does not work at all, then it kind of rules out the problem being from inflammation, depending upon no or partial response? knowing how this did or did not actually help is kind of the key here in what any next steps should really be,thats all. have they tried ANYTHING else at this point?
