I am looking to buy a 2003-06 ford crown victoria police interceptor?

I am really interested in the car, but am getting mixed reviews on it. I want to purchase one for my son, Or Just keep it for myself as a secondary. Are they reliable cars? Where should i look for one in upstate new york? Would it be a good first car for my son? I've been reading up on the issue of the unsafe gas tank? I saw an 05 and 06 priced for 3995 and 4995. Please any owners throw in their 2 cents about their crown vic's- Thanks
