...few details. Can anyone help? -I read it in the late 80's, early 90's so the book is at least that old.
-I feel like it had a typical fantasy novel illustrated cover
-It was a fantasy novel, possibly aimed at young adults.
-The major premise revolved around a guy/boy escaping from his people (?) along with a dragon(s).
-I believe the dragons might have been used in dog-fight type battles?
-THE ONE ELEMENT I REMEMBER with clarity is that his dragon friend was killed somehow, and because of cold weather he had to cut open, and sleep in the stomach of the dragon. When he woke up he gained the ability to hear the other dragon's thoughts and emotions.
I know that is very little to go by, I'm working with a really vague memory, but hopefully that information registers with someone!
