I disagree, the characters and the cure are the one hopeful element in the film and the link to a faith- that there is something / someone there for humanity in the face of tragedy.

If the cure had been lost it would have been totally depressing. I've left the cinema feeling like that before and you feel as if you have gained nothing.

Felt so tense all the way through this film but enjoyed the butterfly symbolism/light versus darkness links.

One of the previous posts mentions God telling Anna about the colony and that it beggars belief. She didn't mean 'told' literally-she was talking about a feeling.

I had a funny feeling they would have a stereotypical Brit, and not an American at fault of the outbreak. Just like most other hollywood movies.
 
Maybe he decided it would be ok, or just he didn't really care...People probably eat long frozen meat everyday and are ok....

Are we really talking about wether eating frozen bacon in a fictional movie is a plot hole or not? :D;)
 
People really read a lot into a fictional story. When Neville is slipping in and out of conciousness on the way back with the woman in the car, it's pretty much light from what i remember. Then the beasties came the next evening.
 
Hope doesn't have to be deciphered as "typical Hollywood schmaltz."

There was plenty to feel depressed about. Certain scenes might have had different outcomes if the film makers really did want to pander to the American audience,
ie when the dog died. I'd have made her get better.
but they didn't. I also liked the symbolism with the butterfly images, that was a nice touch.

I think the film turned out fine (although I just didn't like those zombies, too much like something I'd see on my X-Box)

Arnold Schwarzenegger was to have originally been the main character until the film was shelved some years ago. It was around then that he went into politics. I think Will Smith was a much better choice.
 
You are right, it should be too, just one of those things when the keyboard doesn't action every key-press and the spell-checker rightly sees it as an OK word. I know when to use to, too or two, just sometimes the keyboard doesn't action every key-press.

I did enjoy the film myself, I'd watch it again on DVD or TV.
 
I though it was good, but then i never read the previous book, and I never expect films to now be like the books anyway.

As for them finding a boat, it should have been too difficult to find a small motor boat and ride across. She already was told about the survivor centre in Vermont, and it was only 'listening to god' that she have faith that it actually existed....

I dont really think there were too many plot holes...it just that something are never explained, but theres a logical reason for explanation for it.

Edit: I think the trap was set up by the 'main' monster guy, showing that they were developing some kind of intelligence (possibly a link to the main point of the book that it was Neville himself who had become the monster to the new form of humanity)
 
I loved it until the woman and child came into it. It was so unbelievable. The fact that Will Smith and her looked liked they just stepped off a catwalk despite scavanging and living like dogs for 3 years was one thing, but he barley bats an eyelid when he see's them. Hello ????
 
Thought this film was very good – it’s a story that gets done over & over but still enjoyed it. Best Will Smith since Independence Day.

It looks alright anyway, but if anything happens to that dog....and the trailer indications maybe, i'll be bawling, i know it :-(
 
Yes...I have all three in a bookcase upstairs...doesn't matter if its set of three books, if it doesn't make enough money, then those film aint going to be made.
 
I thought, without it being a great film, it was very good and being unfairly slagged off by many.

And about the plotholes... you could probably pick holes in just about any film, especially fantasy films.
