They couldnt be safe, wasnt the whole world infected?

I sort of assumed since they ever showed the helicopter crash that maybe his family got out of the helicopter but were infected and hed cure them in the end!

I think it was obvious that his family were dead. The flashbacks showed us that they pretty much died when the other helicopter crashed into their's, which was made more sad by the fact that they were just leaving and could've been safe.

The bit when he asked the mannequin to say hello to him was the saddest thing ever, it broke my heart :(

Ahhhh OMG yes that scene was so moving I get goosebumps everytime I think of that scene! He really blew me away in this movie! I knew he was an awesome actor but he is really up there with the highest after this one

I know his wife failed the eye test thing the first time but I think he just wanted to get them outta NY before everything went to hell? I'm not sure...I'd say were dead when the helicopter hit them.

Any thoughts on the alternate ending?

What the hell? A sequel to this movie doesn't make sense, at all! It's called I AM LEGEND. It's based and revolves around ONE main character, and it was about his sole struggle to survive in a world where no-one else had. Plus, he died. You can't have I Am Legend 2 with some other random wannabe-hero, because, who cares? It just takes away from the original story.

They're just trying to cash in on the success of the first one now, and that is rubbish, to say the least.

Absolutely  He can play the humour so well, but he usually outdoes himself when he does more serious roles like this one. And he was AMAZING as Neville, he completely carried the movie when it was just him and Sam, and my heart broke for him during the "please say hello to me!" scene. He tugged on my heartstrings like no other.

Will Smith is a legend himself, I love him!

I thought it was implyed that they were infected, or they were dead when the helicopter hit them, either way they werent normal or alive.

I don't think his family was infected though? Maybe his wife but that was unsure..

That is exactly what me and my fiance were saying about it! He made you feel for him so much, he did such a great job!

Watched this movie for a second time last night and it was just as exciting. I remembered that there were jumpy parts but I couldn't think of exactly when. My friends and I wanted to turn it off when Sam got bit because we couldn't stand watching it.

I liked this movie, it was very emotional.
My favourite scene was probobley when he asks the manequin to say hello, it was really upsetting.

and then of course there was Sams death, Oh my god, poor dog! :(

But I dont think the ending measured up with the rest of the movie, it just seemes a bit weird, I kept expecting more, like maybe he has his infected family locked in the basement and thats why hes working so hard on the cure.

Overall though very enjoyable movie, the concept in interesting.

^ I know!!! Will Smith is a really great actor, I can't remember even one movie for him that I didn't love. About an entire hour of the movie was him alone and he totally owned  If the acting wasn't as great as it was, I'm sure that certain parts of the movie would have been emotionless and kind of boring.

Yes. Plus, Will Smith was amazing. His performance is so underrated, I think. He carried that movie and he hit emotional levels that usually are reserved for dramas, not Sci Fi. He made the movie even better.

yeah I think Sam dying had to happen for emotional affect as well..without his dog and companion Neville was truly alone :(
