I Am Legend - New Ending on DVD

Finally, someone at Warner Brothers have seen sense with this film and made the changes that should have been done on its cinema release.

Its been announced that the DVD release will contain an alternative ending that stays true to the book.

Reason why they didn't show it on the cinema release was because they opted for a big dramatic ending for commercial purposes (tossers!).

Let's hope the new ending makes the film more enjoyable. ;)
 
Yeah but the new ending won't be part of the movie, it'll more than likely be part of the "special features", as an "alternative ending" feature. So if you want to watch the version we all wish they'd released, you'd have to stop the film 5 minutes before the end, switch to special features, then watch the alternative ending.....


.....probably.
 
I've seen it (not the alternative ending) and I really liked it. Didn't expect to with the slating some here have given it.

A pretty solid film that I wouldn't mind watching again.:)
 
I'm not sure how the book ending would make any sense in the context of film, as the 'vampires' in the film are pretty much mindless monsters.
 
Just seen it... Christ, I don't know what people have about a film that doesn't stay "true" to the book. It's a FILM not a book. As Alan Moore would say, it's a totally different animal.

It was supposed to be a 'blockbuster' movie and for a film that ended 6th in the Box office behind...

1 Spider-Man 3
2 Shrek the Third
3 Transformers
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

...I think it was pretty damned good.

The X-men films were not 'true' to the comics, yet it was praised. If you want something true to the book... read the damned book.:rolleyes:
 
I also thought IAL was a rather enjoyable film, but I think the issue with it (which I share to an extent) is that it bore almost no relation to the book at all. Seemed odd to even give the film that name rather than just let it be an unrelated film in and of itself. It would have ducked so much flack that way, and been judged on its own merits. It's so unlike almost anything in the book that they stood no chance of being sued by Matheson.
 
There's also rumour the I Am Legend DVD contains The Lost Boys 2 trailer. ;)

I liked the film but I have never read the book and found the ending very sudden and a bit of an anticlimax. Shame as I'd been really into it up until that point.
 
Well it was looking like it but now so many people seem to be requesting it have a theatrical run it may actually happen. If I'm honest I think it probably should go straight to DVD. I love the original and I'm sure this is just a way to leach off it. But for all I think it will be bad and irritate me I'll still need to see it. :) It's like the Harry Potter films, I'll know they'll irritate me because they cut my favourite parts everytime.... but I still need to know. :p I'm my own worst enermy.
 
Ok this is basically the book's ending -

The vampires in the book capture him and give him a "public" execution. He is literally the last human, which is why it's called "I am legend". When captured he notices the vampires are amazed at him, because to them he is almost a mythical creature, as vampires are to us.
 
No its I am Legend because as
he is being publicly executed, he realises that he has become the dark legend of the knight, the one that the half vampires/ half human fear. Because he was going around killing them all! Not because hes the last human, also one of the vampires takes pitty on him and give him a pill which will kill him in a more humane way before he is publicly executed.
 
So the new ending doesnt go with the book either then lol. I personally prefer the cinema ending, that way hopefully there wont be a sequel.

The film made out these 'creatures' to be more like the zombies in 28 days later, just blood hungry and not all there, apart from the leader which shows they were starting to act differently and learn, which makes the cinematic ending better. The alternate ending shows they have emotion and know what they are doing, which doesnt go with the rest of the film, and didnt make sense to me.

Just my opinion though.
 
Is the alternative ending in I Am Legend DVD

where the zombie like people see that he has heeled the girl, and instead just take the girl and leave Will Smith?

because I read there was a planned alternative endingon wikipedia, but wasnt sure if it ever got filmed.
