I am in the military and made a joke about the hood?

Now every black person and his mom is out to screw me over. I am white I am from a small-mid size city and my family was lower income but not to the point that it was a big deal or that I even cared so I said yeah yo Im from the hood. Then I played it up for a while and laughed to myself. Now they are all out to screw me over. Plus I dont want to sleep around so they call me a homo. These jerks are trying to ruin my life when all I want to do it be able to live my own life now. I said hey it was a joke and I am sorry. But they wont let up. They accuse me of being a wigger but I listen to rock and hate rap and dont dress hip hopish.
Oh yeah and after I PCS I have done this and people keep in contact.
 
It's kind of hard to live down things that may seem harmless to you but offends others. You now have set yourself up for ridicule because people know how to push your buttons. Being an Army Veteran myself one thing I can tell you is bad situations don't last. People are always changing. Therefore I suggest you just keep your nose clean for the time being and do the things necessary to make rank. Once you PCS you'll have a fresh new start and this will be behind you. I suggest you remember this lesson and don't make the same mistake twice.

Edit: You will always run into someone you know. However as you move up in rank and mature the silliness of the past will fade. I don't know what rank you are now , I image you are an enlistman right now. When you become a non commissioned office or if you choose to go to office candidate school or warrant officer school (I don't know if warrant officers exist in your branch of service) things will change and the way people treat you will change. Trust when I say this too shall pass.
 
The thing you should have done is ride the avalanche. You said something that snowballed into something bigger and now if you don't want to be everyone's bitch you will have to roll with the punches. Remember this, your balls are big enough that you can stand up for yourself, but still not take everything so seriously. Use this avalanche to knock down some racial barriers!!!!!
