I use to feed my dog the royal canin puppy food and when he had two teeth pulled i had to switched him to soft food (Cesar's) he loved it and never wanted the dry food again. I went on vacation about two weeks ago and when I came back I could not get him to eat the food, so i brought the beneful prepared meals and he loved them for a while then he refuse to eat it. I then give him the chef michael's canned food and it was the same as the beneful meals. I just switched him to puppy chow dry food and he loved it at first but now he will go all day without eating and will only eat it as a last resort. My friend swears they didn't give him table food while I was gone and neither do I but it worries me that he doesn't eat because he is only a 7lb maltese/yorkie mix. Sorry this is so long.
He is 8 months old.

Is he still a puppy?
their digestive systems are still delicate and even with mature dogs you really shouldn't switch around so much
If you want to try a new food you have to gradually mix it in with his current food until his stomach adjusts
It could be that he loves the taste of the new food but then realizes it's messing with his stomach and doesn't want to eat it

Honestly my dog is the same, thats because she is picky, but she's extremely healthy but by the look of her you swore she'd be dying she looks so skinny. Is it possible that she has a digesting problem?

Try weening him off the wet stuff by adding the dry food either add a little of the moist wet food in it not much or he will only eat the wet and leave the dry.. or you could add some warm water to the harder stuff so it will soften up. its hard moving them to dry once they've tasted wet. but will be better for there teeth

My german shepherd did the same thing at around the same age. Actually, she still does sometimes at almost 2 years old. Some days, she wouldn't even touch the food. Others, she'd nibble. Then she'd pig out one day, and the next might barely touch her food again. The biggest thing to watch is the way your dog acts. Mine was always full of energy and never acted sick, sad, or anything else.

I've always fed her the same puppy chow, only occasionally sprinkling shredded cheese or something like that as a treat when she was really good that day.

Try taking the Beneful wet food and mix a spoonful in with dry food for a while. Make sure it's not just sitting on top, so the dog has to dig for it. You should be able to phase that out too eventually, if you want.

Again, just keep an eye on the way your dog acts. If he seems tired, sick, or basically anything but puppy-like, have him checked out.

No problem with your question being long. I have time to read it. I am thinking there is a very good possibility your friend indulged your dog with people food and two weeks of that will cause problems going back to the dog food.

I am going to suggest a vet check. Mainly because if she has been giving people food your dog could be in the beginning of pancreatitis which will cause a lack of appetite and other things. (It will also kill your dog gone untreated).

If the vet gives a clean bill of health, I would put her food down for 15 minutes and if she doesn't eat it take it up. Don't try and coax her. Just leave it.

After a couple of days of you calling the shots, she'll start eating her dog food again.
