UMMMMMM B16A engines don't come with automatic transmission. Maybe it's a LS transmission. However enough of that, how can u tell it shifts into 2 and 4? With an Automatic you put it in Drive.

If you're having trouble with an auto trans not shifting properly the first place to check is the transmission fluid. Is it filled to capacity? If not, top it off with the proper fluid (see owner's manual or call the Honda dealer's service dept to find out the correct type to use for your transmission if you don't have the owner's manual). Low fluid levels cause poor shifts and a variety of transmission problems.

If the fluid level is OK but the fluid looks dark and smells burned, you may be able to flush/fill the transmission with new fluid to correct the shifting problem.....or there may be more significant damage inside the transmission causing the fluid to overheat, in which case you'd have to tear down the transmission to diagnose the problem properly.

I agree with kingofdrifters - the B16a didn't come stock in any Honda car with an automatic though...make sure you know which transmission you have for sure when looking for info on the proper fluid to use and capacity of fluid etc.,

IF ITS A SWAP ENGINE.. check the year and check the transmission.. these guys are right, a B16 can't be automatic. You might have the LS conversion with the B16 Head or something... If you can't figure it out, head to a place where they do aftermarket work and just ask them to check it out, not fixed since you said you can do it yourself... BUT CHECK AND YOU'LL LEARN MORE IF YOU DO..
