I am going to Dominican. Will my BBM work there? Can I call with my blackberry?

My provider is FIDO and I am going to the Dom Rep from Canada and I was wondering if my BBM will work there for free and if I can still make calls from Dom Rep. I know it will be pricey to make calls but its only one per day.
