Well, I'm going to be an Anthropologist and I want to specialize in Asian cultures. ALL of Asia not just Japan, China, Korea like people like to think is all of Asia.

I don't know much about Indian culture, beliefs, peoples but I'm becoming very interested in learning. I've been studying a lot about Japanese culture, have many pen-pals, am a good deal into the language and feel until I visit I know all I can know from here. Now I want to immerse myself into another Asian culture that's vastly different.

I wonder this though, and I really hope I don't offend anyone, but do Indians not like African American people? I've heard, not often, but I have heard that Indian people think lowly of African Americans. I myself am of several "races" I look different to everyone. Some think I like African American, some think Colombian, some think Dominican, some think biracial (I think it has to do with my long wavy/curly hair).

I find the idea strange, an acquaintance told me I shouldn't even think about going to India because people wouldn't like me. But unlike a place like Japan, I don't think I'd stick out that much. My skin tone is not dark and like a lot of Indian's skin tone. Plus, in college I have never had any problems with the exchange students from India and I had a few of the guys from classes flirt with me a lot.

So, am I just being told lies and reverse racism or something or is there generally a distaste for those of African decent? And I mean just generally, I know that people vary but there are places where you're more likely to run into racism towards a certain race of people and some where you aren't.

Again, I hope this doesn't offend. I'm pretty ignorant of everything India, I hope my wanting to learn at least counts for something.
