I am 17. How do I get a pistol to go camping with?

tell me what i have correct and what i have missing:

i have to wait for 18 to get a gun
i have to wait for 21 to get a license?
i have to wait 5 days from purchase for background check

without a license i cannot take it camping? i don't want to get mauled by a tiger
