I accidently ripped up the title to my car? help!?

I bought this car in april and was putting work into getting it fixed up well i was tearing up some papers the other day and ripped the title with some old crap. Now i was wanting to sell the car but i never got the title transferred to my name or registered due to me not even being able to drive it. I tried getting ahold of the original owners but no luck at all. can someone please help is there any other way to obtain a new duplicate title for the car in MO.
 
Go to the dmv and tell em you want to file for a "lost title"...they can take you through the entire process....doesn't matter if you tell em you lost it or ripped it up accidental either way your goin through the same process....but as far as the car not being yours b/c the title isn't in your name i don't know about that....i'm not 100% sure, but i don't think you can sell a car if the title isn't in your name i'm not sure tho....well hope this helps....
