I a found a sprint epic 4g. How to unlock the MEID # to work as my phone?

I have sprint, and i found a epic 4 g phone from sprint. i would like to use it as my phone, but sprint tells me i have to have the owner release the MEID#. Cant do that because i found the phone. How can i unlock the phone so i can use it on my account that i have with sprint?
