...scientist contacted you ...? ... after a visit to a hospital and said that if you allowed your arm to be amputated and used for stem cells that your sacrifice would save hundreds of people's lives with immediate effect - and you alone can do it because of a rare genetic anomaly - would you agree to it?

There is no alternative treatment for these people.

Please don't change the premise in your answer: the premise is that you allow your arm to be amputated and hundreds of lives will be saved - you agree to remain anonymous and walk away with both arms intact and those same people will die. No-one will know that you
a/ agreed
b/ disagreed
with the request

No publicity. Absolute secrecy. No thanks. No public acknowledgement of your sacrifice will be permitted. No recriminations if you walk away - whatever your choice.

Do you give up your arm?
EDIT: Yes I would.
No Tracey you are right .... I'd give up your arm.
ALEX: WHAT IF it had to be your right arm?
BO KASPAROV: Hypotheticals ate hypotheticals and it takes intelligence to be able to put yourself into the scenario.
Just think Star Trek, hun, if you lack imagination.
typo: ate = are

Only if I caused their condition. If it's my fault they're ill, then it's my responsibility to help them. (I'd prefer my left arm, since I write with my right!)

Otherwise, no. I guess I'm just not that selfless!

No, i would not. Apart from my family and friends, i really dont give a shit about the rest of humanity, so I will keep my arm, thanks!

Us feminists are already far superior genetically, my feministy studies saided so and it must be truest.

Therefore, I would give up my arm to save the womyns only - the menz can die.

And, as a superior womyn - my arm will grow back, like a lizard's tail. Becuase I am superiorous to menz.

Can't they just have my arm after I die? Save people then... or when I'm old and can't work any more and don't exactly need both arms.. mind you I'll still want both after being accustomed to having them....
If they were people I knew then yes I would. If I didn't know them then it wouldn't really bother me if they were gone. As heartless as that is...

No! Call me selfish, but I wouldn't allow my arm to be chopped off. Besides, fewer people surviving would be better for the planet!
