Hypertrophy of the same muscle in a different exercise - what happens?

What happens to a muscle you're training for hypertrophy when you do an exercise that involves it one or more times? Like for example:
4x8 Dumbbell curl
4x8 Hammer curl

Is the bicep then training endurance? What would be the result on the bicep in the above vs. without doing hammer curls?
