Has anyone ever heard of this...hyperreflexia? They said I had this when testing my reflexes and I didn't ask what it was. It was when they were testing reflexes of knees and ankles.

i have it too.this is usually caused by some level of overstimulation of the spinal nerves at some level.alot of cases,it is actually from spinal cord invlovement alone.have you ever had an MRI done on your spine?my damage is actually up inthe c spine but i had direct spinal cord damage that casued mine.it can exist with other types of involvement too.it is kind of a symptom of another problem or the result of actual damage to the motor neurons within the cord.but it is motor/nerve related.just what prompted the neuro exam in the first place?marcia

I have failed back surgery syndrome with a scs. I had the hyperreflexia before I had the stimulator sugery. I lost the use of my legs and fell down for about 20 minutes on Feb 10, 2007. I wonder if this is connected some how?

I was diagnosed with hyperreflexia almost 2 yrs. ago...it seems to come and go....according to which Dr. I see....how confusing. It was thought that it was being caused by compression....but no compression has been found on my MRIs......very strange. Now being tested to confirm SI joint problems...
I do have some bulges/minor disc herniations etc. But supposedly they are not the problem. Had an acdf 4 yrs. ago...don't know if that has any bearing.

hey sage, was there EVER any level of actual cord contact before your c spine surgery?this is actually most often seen with some level of c spine issue, tho it can occur from affectation of the autonomic(sympathetic nervous system)too.how bad was your pre op damage or issues up there in your c spine pre op?was you probalm anywhere near the c7 t1 areas?just what exactly was done up there during your surgery?unfortunetly, there is always the possibility of certain types of damage occuring during any spinal surgery.there could possibly have been something that was damaged within the c 8 junction of nerves or further up even.Marcia
