Hybrid Bicycle under £300?

Im currently using a mountain bike with big chunky tyres and I want to move onto something a little quicker and more road oriented, but something that can still do a bit of work, like canal paths.

I think maybe a hybrid would be best?

I'm looking at the Carrera Subway 2 from Halfords, its around £250 at the moment.

Can anyone reccomend anything around that price thats better?

Or any other reccomendations?

Thanks!

Look for bikes from Specialized or Marin or Trek, if your budget goes that far. Carreras are rather heavy, because they are made of bits of old battleships, held together with lead solder.

You should be able to buy a good hybrid for that price. I did not pay that much for mine and I'm quite happy with it for things like canal paths. There are many brands out there. The important thing to realize is that the bicycle business is so competitive that any two bikes at the same price point are very likely to be equivalent values. So go to your local bike shop and let them know how much you want to spend. Let them match you up with a bike in that price range. Test ride the bike. Then go to another shop and test ride what they have to offer. Test as many bikes as you can. One of them will fit and feel better than the others. You'll be able to tell that very quickly after sitting on the bike and riding it for just a few minutes. Buy that bike regardless of the name on it. It is the bike that you will enjoy and ride the most.
