Huntik Series Premiere Talkback: "A Seeker is Born" (Spoilers)

Actually, that wasn't that bad, I was actually entertained somewhat by a show I knew almost nothing about. The storyline sounds a tad bit generic, but overall I'm pretty positive about this show, I'll try to check out the next episode if I can. All they really need to take care of is the theme, they could have gotten some one else besides "Dragonforce's" half cousins...

The theme was awesome IMO! Cartoons don't need themes by popular recording artists to be good, I mean, the theme could have been sung by a bunch of strung out druggy prostitutes and if it came out the way this theme did then I wouldn't like it any less...

To each their own I guess...

I was wrong and I could not be happier that I was wrong. Lok is Yuri, I'm impressed. I was sure Lok was Mike sure of it, but it's Yuri all right. The end credits don't like. I'm impressed that 4kids went outside their normal talent pool and grabbed Yuri for this show, very impressed. It shows how determained they are that Huntix will be a Hit.

Pluses
+Great Intro
+Great voice acting expecially from the main character
+The story has promise, though a bit slow

The show has my attention the voice of that Gargoyle/imp thing is annoying as hell but not enough to push me off of the show. I will watch for a while hopefully it gets better. it was decent.

The cast as it appeared in the credits:

Lok Lambert - Yuri Lowenthal (L.A.)
Sophie Casterwill - Rebecca Soler (N.Y.)
Dante Vale - Marc Thompson (N.Y.)
Zhalia Moon - Karen Strassman (L.A.)
Cherit - Marc Thompson (N.Y)

Defoe - Kirk Thornton (L.A.)
Grier - Richard Epcar (L.A.)
The Professor - Herb Lawrence (N.Y.)

Lassimmer (Sp?) - Maddie Blaustein (N.Y.)

Voice Directors - Mike Sisterniklaas (N.Y), Marc Diraison (N.Y.)

Definitively a co-production. I feel it must be a bittersweet experience for the NY actors--jobs are already harder to come by than in other places, so having to share the playground with people who are not starving for it must sting a bit, even if they get to work with some different people Still, can't say I fault the vocal variety. And who knows, maybe we'll get some New York people on some L.A. dubs next. And of course, it means that if Lok gets some evil-twin kind of character, Michael just has to voice him now.:p

On that note, I also heard some recognizable VA's--Diraison as the lead suit, and David Zen Mansley, I think, as the narrator in the opening.

I'm super-glad the theme remained untouched, and I like the fact that it has actual credits in it--toons that do that (Robotech being most memorable) always feel more epic, to me.

As for the episode itself...iffy. Very little weight to it, particularly after Lok and Sophie separated. Things seemed to be happening too fast to have too much impact. Still, I liked what I got from the characters (Sophie and Dante, mainly), and the plot and atmosphere, while not quite original, is of the sort we don't get much in cartoons anymore, so I'll definitively be sticking to it.

My thoughts on the characters:

Lok: Typical protagonist, although I do like that his "thing" is supposed to be puzzles, and I liked his rapport with Sophie.
Sophie: Her I liked, then again, she's got brains, looks, and an accent. What's not to like?
Dante: Need to see more. Liked him fine, though.
Cherrit: One thing came to mind: "Chaaaarlie...! You're the Banana King, Charlie!"--and it doesn't even sound much like 'em. Gah!
Defoe: Liked him--really sells "middle management". Plus, he reminds me of a Captain Planet villain, which is good.
Grier: There's stiff, and then there's stiff--lets hope he shows some more sides quickly.

What a great premier episode guys, I was very, very impressed and am definatly going to be glued to the TV come saturday morning. Everything from the premise to the animation really "took" me and I gotta give it up to the person who greenlighted the opening theme, very cool. With quality shows like this I see 4Kids really turning things around and maybe even gaining the respect of older cartoon fans such as myself and many of the people here, I'm saying this even though I like them a little, ive just seen alot of hate for 4kids in the past.

When I saw clips of this at a booth at comic-con you could say I was less than enthusiastic about it. But now seeing an actual episode I must say I'm surprised how well it turned out. So far the only things I found to hold against it are the so-so combat(needs a little work, but at least it isn't Legend of the Dragon bad), that little gremlin thing's voice(painfull), and the "Organization"(nothing wrong with the group just annoyed that they couldn't come up with a better name than a basic generic title).
It's not the best show but it's not by far the worst either, and it's got a cool theme song so that's an improvement over many shows.

I'm not really a fan of these kinds of shows where characters collect cards or monsters to battle other characters. Blue Dragon was the only show of this that kept my interest (until it was canned, at least). But I heard that Huntik was similar to W.I.T.C.H. so I gave it a try.

I'm underwhelmed. I like the fact that the characters also have powers but just don't care for the summoned monsters. I didn't even like the monster designs. Huntik is probably a great series for anyone that likes this sort of thing but I will pass.

The debut episde was stellar from top to bottom in both writing and animation, 4Kids really hit a grand slam when they got this series. The story about the Organization unleashing Titans on Dante and company made for an enjoyable half hour of television watching, I cant wait to see what progresses throughout the season. Hopefully this series ends up on 4Kids video soon!

Kind of hard to judge it on its first episode, since the first episode always starts out promising enough... the true test will be in the next few weeks to see if they'll stick to the storyline. But it was decent from what I saw; the fights are pretty iffy, though.
