I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on what my neurosurgeon said today. I have a hump that recently developed on my upper back or lower neck area. I am also having a lot of pain in that area. After trying physical therapy for muscle tightness and having an MRI done which showed significant disc degeneration from C4 through C7 (along with spurs) I saw a neurosurgeon today. The NS said this was unrelated to my spine... it is a fat deposit (or glucose pad) related to problems with my blood sugar. Or it could have been caused by steroid use. I do have borderline diabetes but have been keeping my blood sugar under control with diet and exercise. The NS does not want to to any steroid injections because it could push me over the edge into full diabetes. This is my second round with disc degeneration and bone spurs after having fusion in lurabar area about 20 months ago. Has anyone had a fairly sudden development of a hump, and could you share your diagnosis?
