The sequel to The Hulk which is called The Incredible Hulk has now got a director who is Louis Leterrier (Transporter, Unleashed). Also writer Zak Penn has been talking about the sequel:

"It

Here is some more info about it:

"Even though former Marvel Studios chief executive Avi Arad let the cat out of the bag earlier this year, The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier made it official today at the San Diego Comic-Con that Abomination will indeed be the villain for the follow-up.

"He's capable of amazing feats," Arad said previously, describing the former Yugoslav spy who has mutated into a 980-pound freak of terrifying strength and unpleasant demeanor.

Newly named The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier (the "Transporter" films, "Unleashed") told attendees that his vision for Hulk would still focus on Bruce Banner's hate for the monster inside him and carry a tone closer to that of the television show. Ari Arad added that the new film would focus more on the Hulk as hero theme.

"This is Marvel's horror movie," said Leterrier "It's Frankenstein meets Jekyll and Hyde with a little bit of Edward ScissorhanRAB."

As for characters returning from the first film, Leterrier confirmed that General Ross will be there. Avi Arad addded that filming will start in April, 2007."

The first film is the worst movie I have EVER seen in my life, an absolute abomination (pardon the pun).

So news of this sequel comes about as welcome as a door to door window salesman.

Yeah same here but appartently it was part of his contract for the first Hulk film to do a sequel but he has said nobody has been in contact with him to ask him to do the sequel yet!

The Hulk was one of the worst of the super hero films I've seen in ages. There are so many bad things about it, its difficult to know where to start. But the overwhelming issue for me was simply the continuity on the size of the Hulk - it varied from about 8 feet to 15 in height.

The DVD is on sale in Poundland at the moment, which probably sums it up.

The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier has been talking some more about the film and his plans:

"We won't be spending times presenting the characters, which is unfortunately pretty much unavoidable as far as number ones are concerned. Someway like Spider-Man 2, Marvel wants this Hulk to be the one fans would really want to see on the big screen. I'm not badmouthing Ang Lee's movie which has its supporters but I think the tone was overall a little bit too serious. As far as the casting is concerned, we don't know yet if Eric Bana will be onboard and regarding Hulk, I can already tell you that I don't intend to use as much 3D as the first movie did. As for the budget, it will be over 100 millions"

The Hulk changes size depending on how angry he is. At certain points in the movie he is clearly seen to grow larger when he gets into more danger. The main one I think is the dogs scene where he Hulks out and then when they get on top of him he gets angrier and bigger. When he's finished with the dogs he actually shrinks on camera without changing back to Bruce.

I'm pretty sure Ang Lee points this out on the DVD commentary as well.

It's only a pound, you could check ;)

Is David Duchovney attached to this?

It would be nice if they could get Eric Bana back really. I didn't think much of the first film, so the sequel can really only be better.

As well as the recent casting of Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth in The Increadible Hulk. This was on Superherohype about the appearance of the Hulk:

"In a new interview with director Louis Leterrier, he says The Hulk will be about 9 feet tall and won't grow taller."

Also here is a possible synopsis of the plot:

"The explosive, action-packed adventure in one of the all-time most popular superhero sagas unfolRAB with a cure in reach for the world's most primal force of fury: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. We find scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won't leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler).

Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination (Tim Roth) -- a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction."

Technically, it's both - depending on how you want to approach it. It's a different take on the comic, but it takes off from a point that can follow from the end of the Ang Lee film (Banner in the rain forest searching for a cure). To give it a TV analogy, it's worth viewing like the new version of Dr Who. Technically, it takes part after the original, but the canonicity of the original is likely to be be ret-conned in part, and it's a completely new and different approach to the subject matter.

That ambiguity is something of a masterstroke, to my mind - allowing this new take on The Hulk to be all things to all people.

Yeah, I think it will be left up to the audience as to whether they want to treat it as a sequel or not. I have read recently they will not show anything to directly contradict the first movie, they just won't refer to the events. Stylistically though it will feel very different.

As for the Doctor Who analogy, it is agood one. Though DW has always retconned itself even throughout the classic series

Yes I agree pretty much with your points.
It's a clever way to start afresh but not associate itself directly with the other Hulk film.
My point is that there's no way that the makers of 'The Incredible Hulk' want this to be seen as a 'Hulk 2'. I think they were trying to avoid that and put a bit of deliberate between this and the other Hulk film so as to not make people connect the two films together and see this as a sequel.

I think that the intention is that the other Hulk film would be treated a bit seperately, like the Bond film 'Never Say Never Again' from the James Bond franchise which isn't seen as an official Bond film.
I think that they want to start any potential Hulk franchise from this new movie 'The Incredible Hulk' onwarRAB, and the other Hulk film to be treated as some sort of b*stard cousin who's kept locked in the cellar.:D
