html table question.... PLEASE help im getting pissed?

ok so for my programming class we have to make tables with links in one cell to change the body of another cell you know? we have to use the table tags and stuff but put a link in one cell (i can do that) to change another cell in the same table... whenever i try to click the link it just opens up in a new window and doesnt change the other cell at all
