HTML Navigation Panels?

I am working on my site and I want to add a sign in or sign up feature to the navigation panel. The way I want it set up is like this...

-Home
-About
-etc..
-Sign Up or Sign In

Clicking on sign up would lead to sign up page and vice versa, the or is just plain text.

When I make the link, it makes a line break, as if...

-Sign up
or
-Sign In

I can't take out a line break because there isnt actually one in the html.

Here is how I am doing it...

<li><a href=LINK>Sign Up> or <a href=LINK> sign in</a></li>

When it finishes the first link, it spaces, then or, then the next link.

How can I make them both on the same line, without them going to the same link and with the or just being plain text?

You where not closing the first link from what i can see. After Sign Up close the link like normal than go to the 'or' in normal text and back to the other one.
