HTC Inspire vs. iPhone 4

I'm getting a little bored with my iPhone 4...and have an opportunity to trade it for a brand new AT&T HTC Inspire.

Can some here who have experienced each phone give me the pros and cons of doing the trade...what I can expect, etc?

The Inspire is an awesome phone. The only issue I've seen with it is that the battery is rather small, and if you're a power user you'll need to top off several times a day. Aside from that, it's great. I personally wouldn't trade my iPhone 4 for it. Maybe if HTC had made the Atrix, but I'm too used to being able to go alllllllll day (and the retina display is addictive).

Several times a day? That'd be a dealbreaker to me.

Plus, I'd get the nagging feeling I had an old phone. The Inspire 4G is basically a Desire HD (available in Europe since the fall) for AT&T with support for non-Market apps disabled. As good as that can be, you're getting something that's only just as fast as an iPhone 4 at a time when the dual-core iPhone 5 is probably just three months away.

My thoughts too, and the thing is frakkin HUGE!!!! I mean, the only thing bigger is the Dell Streak! It didn't feel comfy in my hand at all, but I know that's a subjective thing.

My biggest deal is that although I have mobile phone OCD...like most here, I can't think of anything any better than what I'm using, really. Guess that means, I'll stay where I am until something really better comes along!

Most of the field reports I get with the Desire HD shows its a surprising phone when it comes to battery savings. It is as good as any, or better, than Androids with bigger batteries.

Other than the nicer interface of the Inspire (the latest HTC Sense is a visual knockout), the Motorola Atrix appears to be a more future proof phone.

I disagree, I held my iphone 4 up to it and it's not that much bigger. It actually feels thinner with the tapered edges. Plus with the added size you get much bigger, more usable, 4.3" screen. But I would have a hard time buying such dated hardware with so many new phones on the horizon.

It's definitely bigger. On the Inspire 4G (or Thunderbolt, or Desire HD...), the grip's slightly strained if you don't have big hands -- mine are strictly average. My real beef is that you get a bigger screen but, right now, no extra resolution. The iPhone 4 lets you wrap your hand more comfortably, and more importantly, fits easily in most pockets.

If possible, wait for the iPhone 5 in June or July. We're looking at a dual-core A5 and, possibly, a larger screen in the same form factor. You're probably going to see some new phones at the CTIA show this week, too. If you had to buy an AT&T Android phone now, I'd get the Atrix, load it with Launcher Pro and enjoy.

The Motorola Atrix has a remarkably efficient design. We got some of these for display and I got the chance to compare it side by side with a Samsung Galaxy S i9000. Overall the Atrix is smaller than the Galaxy S, yet if you align the screens of both phones together, the Atrix has a slightly bigger screen---the official 4" screen spec might be understated since the Galaxy S has a 4" screen.

The Inspire remains to be an awesome phone though. Anything based on the Desire HD is. The whole build formula is fantastic with the anodized unibody aluminum body frame and the rubberized plastic appears sprayed with nanoparticles.

Do you think they are going to release another version of the iphone this year? I heard they are just going to release a cheaper version of the iphone 4 to cater for the people who can't afford the current iphone 4.

They always, always, release a new version of the iPhone every year. This year, I'm hearing it might not be until September or so since there will be a huge revision of the software, but it's coming. Apple can't afford to let Android go unanswered!
