HTC Incredible vs. iPhone 4g

I'm getting an Incredible this month hopefully the 29th if rumors are true. So sick of this BB 9550. I doubt the iPhone 4g will be on Verizon for another year anyways.

But what phone do you think is going to be better?

I got doubts that Verizon will issue an iPhone or that Apple will make a Verizon iPhone. So many reasons that have to do with Apple's business model. But I can tell you one. The carriers can't charge $299 (for the 32gb iPhone 3GS model) or premium prices if Verizon and AT&T is having a price war on the iPhones. This will affect the premium image of the iPhone and Apple maybe forced to cut margins, hence reduced profits. Apple can seem to afford selling the iPhone with multiple carriers on other countries but its probably because the consequences of a minor price war among those carriers don't affect them as much. Not like its main market here on the US.

Another reason. Apple maybe forced to cough up more royalties to Qualcomm, which is the case of any CDMA phone.

I feel the best bet is to go for the Incredible if you're with Verizon.

If you really need an Apple thingie, get an iPad.

I would doubt the iPhone will be going to Verizon, but without knowing the specs for it it's hard to make a comparison. Do you not get any AT&T coverage where you're at, or just have a great discount through Verizon?

There have been credible rumors of a Verizon iPhone, but not until the fall (November sounds good given Verizon's preferences). It won't be LTE, most likely, since that hardware is still too power-hungry.

If you can wait, the iPhone will likely be slick, but the Droid Incredible should be very nice indeed. My only real issue so far is that Sense UI virtually guarantees delayed Android OS updates. It's at 2.1 now, but how long will it take to move to 2.2/2.5/whatever when it's released?

The update cycles are slowing down, and Google has expressed that they want to seperate functions from the release versions, so updates won't make people miss out on features if your phone isn't capable of doing the update.

so what does this mean from the WSJ then?

WSJ: Verizon iPhone in the works

In addition to a new iPhone model that works on AT&T's network, Apple is also reportedly prepping an iPhone that is compatible with Verizon's network.

The Wall Street Journal quoted unnamed sources in a story Monday who say one of Apple's contract manufacturers--the companies that build the hardware according to Apple's specifications--is working on an iPhone that runs on a CDMA network. That's the cellular network that Verizon uses in the U.S. The sources said the CDMA-compatible iPhones will go into mass production in September, though when Apple would sell it wasn't mentioned. Apple has traditionally released new iPhone hardware in late June or early July.

There have long been rumors that a Verizon iPhone was in the works, but Apple's exclusive contract with AT&T in the U.S. has appeared to be a roadblock. However, it's never been clear how long AT&T was granted exclusivity. Apple has added additional carriers in other countries but as recently as January has not sounded overwhelmingly positive about the possibility of doing so in the U.S.

The Journal story says that while Apple's traditional partner for building iPhones has been Taiwan's Hon Hai, a different manufacturer, Pegatron, has been assigned to build the Verizon-compatible model. Pegatron is also based in Taiwan and is a subsidiary of Asustek. Hon Hai is said to be working on the next-generation iPhone that will operate on AT&T in the U.S. and on GSM networks in other countries.

North eastern US doesn't get the greatest AT&T coverage, I've always had the best luck with Verizon. Plus I absolutely love Verizon they have always taken care of me.

Until Apple can resolve the issues with poor radio performance on the iPhone, it's not an option for me. Hopefully they will address this with the 4th Generation, because for me at least, not having premium call quality, RF strength, good earpiece volume is a deal breaker. I refuse to suffer with poor reception, static, dropped calls etc. on a daily basis just to have an iPhone.

I am an Apple fan, got an iMac and an iPod and I really WANT an iPhone, but the current Motorola Droid absolutely blows the iPhone out of the water when it comes to call quality. I am waiting until the release of the new iPhone, but if it is plagued with the same lackluster phone performance as previous generations then it's probably an Android phone for me. :(

I use less than 100 minutes a month talking on my phone. Voice minute usage has been in decline for a while now across all carriers. It's not a priority, just a talking point.

My wife has an iPhone 3GS and before that, the iPhone 1st gen. The voice quality on my Nexus One trumps both.

In terms of voice quality among my recent phones and phones in the house, its.

Droid Eris > Blackberry Tour > Nexus One > iPhone 3GS.

Since the HTC Droid Incredible and Desire can be said as successors to both the Droid Eris and Nexus One, I expect some good voice quality there.

The Nexus1 has the voice quality edge with the dual mics for noise cancellation. Which really should be on all high-end handsets. It's POSSIBLE that the iPhone HD has that, but until we get a spec sheet we'll not know.

I think Verizon will get an iphone but with less features...i think the ATT version will be better overall.. but i guess we will see.

Compared to the incredible...vs. Iphone... I dont think anyone can really beat the iphone with ease of use and instant access to apps!!!!

It is a platform that caters to all age groups....

I think it'll have exactly the same features; the only limitation would be the inability to use 3G data at the same time as you're on a call (since EVDO doesn't allow this, but HSPA does).

My hunch: it gets announced in the fall and ships November or so. You know, the same month Verizon normally prefers for flagship phone launches (see: BlackBerry Storm, Motorola Droid).

And Verizon has also run its "misfit toys" ad where it praised the iPhone and just said it was a shame it was stuck on AT&T.

And then there's Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, who has said multiple times that he would like the iPhone on Verizon but that it was Apple's call.

No company ever sees a TV ad and says "well, I never!" If that had been the case, Apple would never have had Intel Macs because of how often it trashed Pentiums back in the 1990s. Trash-talking to sell your product is expected, and no smart businessman ever cuts off a possible partner.

Verizon wanting it and Apple giving it to them are two different things.

And yeah, a company run by Steve Jobs does that. The man is a legend for holding grudges and retaliation by witholding.

I don't think Verizon exactly kicked his puppy here.

Moreover: if anything, Jobs would love to put the iPhone on Verizon to put the screws to Google, HTC and Motorola. Want to hit back at Android? Take it on in its home turf.

I believe you would have to wait until iPhone 4G were to come out before comparing the two. Then you would have to choose a carrier and then phone. Both should be good. The incredible is out already so you know the stats and the iPhone is not. But it should have multitasking? Better late then never I guess...
