HTC hero wont connect to computer?

it just randomly happened but now i cant transfer files to and from my phone and comp. it will charge while plugged into the computer but the comp says USB device not recognized. i do have the 2.01 software on the phone
 
You probably accidentally told the phoen not to connect using usb, but to only charge. This can be changed under settings and then "computer" or "usb" - I have the Droid Eris, so it's a bit different, but you should find it there. Tell the phone to connect to the computer, then.
