HTC Hero - Stuck on Firmware 1.5

Hi,

I have an HTC Hero (on UK T-Mobile) and cannot update it from Firmware version 1.5. The build number is 2.73.110.26 (CL#69351).

I don't have the 'check for updates' option in my settings so can't check for any updates. I have tried to change the date forward a month as some have suggested but still can't get it to update. I am hoping to get it to 2.1, if i can't do it the official way i'm happy to attempt to go with a custom rom.

Thanks for any help

The Check For Updates is a bit of a misnomer. It just runs the Checkin Service which runs every 24 hours anyway. So at most, you save 24 hours by pressing it.

You can force it to run without the option in the settings too by dialling:

*#*#checkin#*#* (That's *#*#2432546#*#*)

HTC's website has all the firmwares on there too, but the problem you're having is not that the phone isn't finding the update, it's that there isn't an update for T-Mobile UK yet. You can see all the latest updates here: http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=283&act=sd&cat=2

As you can see, there are no 2.1 updates yet, as the most recent is from February. But, there may be a 1.6 update. I'm not sure why you haven't already got that.

So is my only option to wait until T mobile release the 2.1 update? It seems like they've taken forever on this!

The only T mobile ROM upgrade on there is the same build number as mine (2.73.110.26) so i presume that's still Firmware 1.5?

Thanks

If the build number's the same, then yes, but I could have sworn T-Mobile UK has all their Hero phones on 1.6. I mean the G1 on T-Mobile UK is, and it's a less powerful phone.

The Hero only started getting 2.1 recently. So yes, you may need to wait a while. But I suspect T-Mobile UK will never push out 2.1. You may be stuck on 1.5 forever unless you root your phone.
