I have an HTC Touch Pro 2, which is a sister model and the only difference being that the HD 2 is twice as fast, has a larger screen, and lacks a physical keyboard. The operating system is Windows mobile, which after the 6.5.3 update incorporated with sense UI is very solid. You will have copy and paste in almost every application in the phone including the calculator. The phone is pre-loaded with windows mobile and perhaps with the 2010 version. The phone can multi task and do it well. If you get the chance, download opera mobile 10 beta. The phone comes with opera mobile 9, which is fast and amazing in its own right, but the 10 beta will give you a full web experience and can play flash. yes, you read that correctly, once you enable flash, you can view flash on most websites. As for texting, the on-screen keyboard is very good and even better on the large screen of the HD 2.
On another note, if you have never owned a product by HTC, you are guaranteed quality. With the exception of a few earlier models, HTC phones are well built. My HTC Touch Pro 2 has cracks in the screen from some sort of drop(I honestly don't even know how it happened) and with the way the phone is designed, performance is not hindered at all. I could get it fixed, but it is kind of endearing. Now, don't take this as me saying that their phones break easily, but if they do, they will still work. my example is probably because of my hobbies(working in machine and wood shops)
I hope this helps
