Htc evo mp3 ringtones for text msgs?

I am having the hardest time finding an app that will trim the songs i want down to a notification ringtone, if it does it, i try it out and it goes from the song to some weird crap when its finished that sounds like a regular phone ringtone. Then when i try to use the ringtone trimmer and cut my mp3 songs on my phone down to a ringtone it says it failed. Is there an app anyone knows of or something i can do to get notification mp3 ringtones
