about 2/3 of Android Apps are free, 1/3 are paid. Once you buy an app, it's your's, even if you replace the phone - it is "tied" to your Google Account.
Android is much more advanced than ANY of the other phone OS's out there - I'm not saying it's "better" for a particular person's needs and such, but it was designed from a "clean slate" to do EXACTLY what it is being asked to do - provide a mobile computing experience on a cell phone. since it was designed for this purpose from day-one - there is not "legacy baggage" to contend with as with other phone OS's that have "evolved" into what they are now.
You *must* get the $30/month unlimited internet access plan with Verizon for any "smart phone" be it the Eris, the Moto Droid, a Black Berry etc...
There is no additional charge for using your own internet if it happens to be faster than Verizon's 3G speeds.
