HTC desire, moving apps to SD card?

I have the HTC Desire with 3 mobile (great phone) but it seems that when I download apps from the market they are being saved onto the limited phone memory, which is now running low, and not the SD card,
I know Android 2.2 (froyo) comes with a function to enable this to be done but my phone hasn't been updated with it yet so i was wondering is there a way currently that my phone would be able to move the apsp to the SD card

Unfortunately not - though as you say, the new version 2.2+ will do this. Check with 3 whether you will be updated over the air and then decide what to do. It's an easy enough process to flash the ROM and run an entirely different build to the one your network provided you with - the good folks over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ are posting new ROMS literally every couple of days - so there's a lot to choose from. As Android is open-source, custom-roms are perfectly OK - this is not the same as 'jailbreaking' an iphone!

One of the nicest features is, once you have changed your phone ROM and logged back in for the first time using your Google account, you'll find that all your installed apps from the previous ROM were remembered by the app store and will automatically download to your phone - a real time-saver.

Good luck, and hope this answer has helped you. http://www.smartphonenews.co.uk
