HP OfficeJet printer J6480 is bricked when I tried to flash firmware. Why?

OK, so I downloaded the firmware for the J6480 and flashed it. The flashing process halted mid-way through and bricked the printer. Any ideas? I tried to unplug it overnight and restart the flashing process from scratch and it halts mid-way every time. This thing is now a paperweight...sigh.
