hp dv5t shuts off ONLY when it's plugged in and charging?

I just bought a new hp pavilion dv5t and it works fine when it isn't plugged in and charging; however, sometimes (and more often than not) when it is plugged in and charging it RANDOMLY just turns off. By turns off what I mean specifically is that the screen just goes off and the power and internet light (f12) flash on and off. Sometimes I can just touch the mouse pad thing and it will turn back on as if it is asleep, and sometimes it simply will not turn on. The only way it really turns back on is if I hold the power button for like THIRTY seconds and then after the light stops flashing completely, hold the power button again.

I have checked my power settings and made sure that I don't have it set to sleep mode or anything of that nature and I lower my brightness as much as possible and put it on battery saver yet this still continues to happen. I thought the problem might be overheating because people say that's common among hps; however, some of my friends have observed the phenomenon for themselves and told me that when their laptops overheated it never behaved like mine did and sometimes this happens after the laptops been on for just a short while.

and so basicallyyyyyyyy...does anyone have ANY idea what might be wrong?
