How would you feel if your partner SHUSHED you several times an hour just because TV...

...had something new on it? This is a partner who supposedly wants you around and values your company, but can't seem to subordinate the TV to conversation with human beings. In their world, TV (which they watch for 14-16 hours a day) reigns supreme and human beings come second.

This is a retired 79 year old woman, by the way: Sane, sober, no Alzheimers Disease, and with all their mental capabilities although somewhat feeble and set in their ways.

Does getting older mean you can disconnect from society and no longer be held accountable for reasonable and marginally sociable/respectable treatment of others?

I personally feel like not talking any more and communicating only in writing so the TV may reign supreme and my communications can be read some time during the commercials for the 17 regular programs they follow each day.

The TV is called "the idiot box" by many for a reason. It spits out idiotic but compelling messages all day / all night. But more so than what it broadcasts, it turns normally nice people into unsociable idiots -- if they let it. And it is very engrossing to people whose lives are very boring and empty.

So would you feel like not talking much if it was clear the TV had taken over your home and reigned supreme over all human conversation?
