I took my car for an MOT and it failed. It had a new engine installed last year but the emissions test could not be done because of a 'high blocked machine'..now the test centre said I should refer it to the garage that installed the engine. I did, and he got angry with me because I said if the engine was at fault it should be exchanged (they charged me £1800 - that was about as much as I had from my redundancy just six weeks before). i accept the car is 9 years old, but has a solid body and things like brakes I expected it to fail on...they can be fixed. But the mechanic, after I gave him 15 years business was aggressive and horrid to me, and it just sounds like he did'nt want to do the job for me. he even claimed to have had 'run-in's' with me before where they turned up and I was'nt in. Huh?
Of course I just want the car to pass it's MOT. but I feel like this mechanic should have looked at the car free of charge in this instance. he says the emissions are nothing to do with the engine, but the test centre claim the major reason the car failed was because of the engine, or the blockage in it causing the black smoke.
The test centre also recommended a service? On a a engine that had done just 4000 miles? I don't know who or what to believe.
Short of getting a shot gun to this mechanic (who I just thinks wants more money and despite his claim of being professional, he has not sought to help me out here) what would you advise I do?
