How would you become a healthy food and lifestyle activist?

The Western diet is unhealthy. It's far too rich in protein, fats, refined carbs, and sugars. It also contains additives that may be toxic over a person's lifetime (MSG and aspartame are two common examples).

How can a person work in his or her community to help educate and eliminate health hazards from people's diets.

There are plenty of qualified dieticians out there. I'm seeking a career as an activist. What are some ideas about how I might approach this.

Who would you target in the local community?
What media would you use?
Would you build a web site?
Talks at schools or companies?
Would you teach healthy food preparation classes?
Write a book?
So it's alright for Pepsi, Coke, and McDonald's to advertise, but don't let any health activist get mind share? Comon' you sound like industry bloggers.

How about you keep it to yourself unless some asks you about it. This is reason people find environazis so insufferable. You want to eat what you perceive as healthy, that's great but don't go around telling people that eating that hamburger will surely kill them. If I want to hear why white bread is bad for me, I'lll ask.

Edit: Eating healthy falls into the realm of personal responsibility. Besides nothing is stopping you from purchasing advertising time and making an ad for your agenda.

I'd focus on myself and let the activism come from example. There's no reason to brow beat somebody while their trying to enjoy their cholesterol injected cheeseburger.

Response to additional details:
Pepsi and Coke are products, hence the advertising and profit margins. If it is profit margins you are after, write the book. Maybe other activists will buy it. If you're just selling activism, I refer to my first post...do it by example.

Be prepared to be arrested, harassed, and slandered. You won't be allowed to speak at schools. By all means build a website and write books. You could also teach food prep classes. You'll mostly be preaching to a small choir though. The majority of people believe everything they were taught about the food pyramid. They are horrified at the idea of fasting. They want to do what they want to do, and surely somebody makes a pill or surgery that will correct the damage they do to themselves. It's perfectly 'normal' these days to have a list of health problems as long as your arm.
