How would this be possible (Art sculpture)?

Hi, I am going to be doing a sculpture in my first AS art level piece, and we are allowed to make it using whatever we want. I would really like to do a sort of sand sculpture. Do you think this would be possible? Not neccessarily with actual sand, but is there something very similar that would be more permanent??

sodium silicate (water glass) is a clear thick liquid sold at ceramic supply places for about $8/gallon that is used to change viscosity of slip.
But if it is mixed with sand, it makes a sculptable mass that hardens on exposure to the CO2 in the air. In large masses, it is necessary to rod it to make tubes that the air can get in or to inject CO2 from a tank. It is used to make cores and molds for sand casting metal and glass. While liquid it can be diluted somewhat with water, once hardened it is tough but given enough moisture it will come apart.
Looks like glossy sand.
Water glass is available from other sources like drug stores and natural food stores in smaller containers that cost most of the price of a gallon at ceramic/pottery supplies.

you could try making it with clay then covering it in a layer of a strong adhesive followed by a layer of sand. that way its got that sandy look and such but the sturdy, lasting base of the clay.

Hmm I don't know if there is something similiar to sand that would be permenent. I have seen those sand patterns made in bottles with different colour sands poured in but never a permenent sand sculture.

The only sand sculptures I am aware of are the ones that are made daily at the beach for tourists to see and give money to the artist for.

I guess you could make the base of the sculpture out of a secondary material such as plaster, cement, clay etc. and cover it with PVA then add a textured sandy coating

Good luck hope your project goes well!

how about some paste that you can mix with the sand so it glues together therefore stay more permanent.

I don't know anything that you can use with it but i'm sure there's something.

hope this helps! ;D

I have seen cardboard shaped how you like and then sprayed with adhesive and then sprinkled with sand. Looks pretty good and not very hard to do.
