How would I make this on Photoshop?

Okay, so I am taking a design class at school, and we have to make a final project of anything we want. Well, I got Inspiration from this song called "Ultraviolet" by The Stiff Dylans. And basically, I want to take this silhouette of a girl in some sort of pose, and than be hide her, I want like rays of color and lights, possibly fire coming out, so it looks like her shadow. But, I don't know how to make the rays and stuff. I tried searching tutorials on light graffiti and stuff like that, but nothing is coming up like I want it to? Can anyone please help me, or send me a link to some great tutorials about how to do this! THANKSS!
 
I did this one similar to what you want, I think. I made a small gradient, and then did a polar co-ordinates on it, and it made this ray this from the centre of my screen. Just mess about with that sort of stuff.
