My boyfriend traveled to Wisconsin for an internship which he is required to do for culinary school. He was supposed to be there for about 3 months. A few weeks after he got there, he got his 2nd dui (he has one from our home state of Michigan that he got at the age of 19 with less than a .08 Blood Alcohol level, but it still counts as a dui because he was under 21). He is now almost 23 and got this dui because his blood was drawn and he had smoked marijuana within a few days of the incident.
His lawyer thinks that, because he came to Wisconsin to work, he should be able to be put on work release instead of put into jail. He has heard that work release is "full" though and fears he may go straight to jail. His lawyer is hopeful that he will be released in time for the start of school (he is enrolled full time and this is supposed to be his last year) which starts August 31st. Still, this is very upsetting for me because it means I wont be able to see him for months.
I am curious if anyone knows about the rules as far as contacting a person who is currently in jail or work release... will i be able to call him or only write letters? and what if there is an emergency... how can i get ahold of him?
I'm not sure that answers my question but... thanks for the advice?
