how when do i rank up from referral program(army)?

would i get rank once he leaves for basics or when he first goes to MEPS?

depends on what branch your joining. in the marine corps it works like this
if you have 1 referral and no college you'll get paid as a pfc while at bootcamp.
if you have 2 referrals and college you get paid as a lcpl while at bootcamp
if you have 3 referrals and no college you get paid as a lcpl while at bootcamp.


now notice i said get paid as. while at bootcamp your rank is recruit. after the crucible you'll get pinned your rank.

my bad i didn't notice you said army. while at bootcamp i think you'll be a private and most likely get your promotions towards the end.

when he sings his papers, then you get the rank upon graduation of BCT

He'd have to leave for basic. Just going to MEPS doesn't mean you automatically qualify for the Military.

have 2 people sign the paper go to boot camp and there you earn PFC or PVT or what ever you soldiers call your E-2's or if you have some college credit or JROTC

You will be awarded more rank usually around the 6 month mark- the military wants to make sure you won't wash out, and they want to make sure your buddy doesn't wash out also. Once you've been in the military 6 months, the odd's are very good you'll finish your enlistment.

It'll be easy to know when it happens- orders will come down from headquarters and your CO will pin the rank on.

Or more than likely you'll just find it on your pay stub.
