How was Asclepius (God of medicine) able to die if he was immortal?

Asclepius was born half mortal but evently became a full god like Herakles. Yet Zeus was able to kill him.

Were the god's "immortality" limited or is this just another inconsistency in Greek Mythology?

Asclepius become a constellation after his death not a god (since he already was).
