How use/connect Sony Stereo from computer to use them as speakers?

So I have this Sony Stereo with really nice speakers. It does have an audio jack on it. I was woundering if I can use one of these

a 3.5mm Stereo Male To Male Cable to be able to use it as speakers?

And the speakers are not able to break off from the stereo to use them as portable speakers, when you unplug it, it is just a copper wire.
