Writing poetry is not about being able to write <<good poetry.>> Throughout my years of writing I have found out that poetry is about a feeling and being able to put it down in a poem form. You mention your English teacher. I don't like English teachers because they differ from creating writing instructors like myself. The reason English teachers do not like us is because we take many licenses. In other words, we break many grammatical rules. So the thing that is holding you down are rules and regulations.

Take a deep breath and write about a feeling, any feeling. Another thing that holds writers from writing is because they believe poetry has to rhyme. No, you begin with free verse.

When you finish, post your poem again. If I see it, I will be happy to make some suggestions.
