How to Wire an LED into my Car?

Can I sodder a pos and neg wire to the anode and cathode of a led and then to the battery(or split it somwhere in the dash)?

Im also not sure if i need to get a certain wattage led or something so its compatible wiht a 12v car battery? Im assuming the led dosent matter.

What im do is changing the color of my interior dash/gauge cluster. Rather than buying different color bulbs im simply gonna throw some leds behind there adn make a new circut. Answers/comments /reccommendations please?
 
Three options:

1. Proceed as you are (100% chance of failure).
2. Get a commercially available kit to accomplish the task (50% chance of failure)
3. Go to a pimp-my-ride shop and have them do it for a nominal fee (100% success rate)
