How to view MPEGs...

HI!

What would you guys recommend for viewing MPEGs if I am just running the basics (DocToGo etc.) ... cannot get my T2 to show MPEGs?

Cheers! :)

I was going to PM you on this but neither your email or personal message capabilities are activated. You might consider turning one or both of these "on" when you ask advice so that people can contact you without necessarily taking up "forum" room. As it is now, everyone will have to read my recommendation and roll their eyes, but here goes . . . .

I would strongly recommend you look at TealMovie. Far more choices (on an easy graphical layout) for encoding options to save room on an external card with finished result.

Encode rates up to 60 fps and excellent quality, competitively priced with MM Player and Kinoma -- bettern than MM Player, more options than Kinoma. I have asked Tealpoint to give "a little extra TLC to PDA Street members should they need support after purchasing (in light of recent software fiascos from other companies - check the threads);" just mention

"paulteal"

if and when you place an order with them. I have asked them to "weigh in" on some of these forum issues, especially movie encoding, but have a feeling they don't want to give the impression of "spamming," and they're awfully busy with revamping a couple of apps (TealPhone) and developing other new apps as well so may not have time. Maybe in the future.

I've played around extensively with TealMovie and the new version is really impressive; Kinoma 2.2 is good and gives a few options but I think T/M is worth the extra 2-3 minutes at time of encoding to get a better finished result. The AUDIO portion is fantastic and files can be made quite small.

Now...how did I know that TealMovie would make an appearance here LOL;)

Seriously Paul, what sort of file sizes will teal come up with (as compared to, say, Kinoma). I am playing with MMplayer and like it. The files sizes are very small (2hr movie in 140Mb at 320x176, 12 fps, 150kps and stereo sound) BUT transcoding is errr challenging...

Actually, I only mentioned "TM" because it wasn't mentioned at the top post and really does deserve AT LEAST honorable mention.

All of my files are smaller than 140MB - a lot smaller!! I have no idea except that you might try a trial. ENCODING takes a while with TealMovie (it's faster in Kinoma) but TM gives you more control over the final file size, which seems to be your point/question. Anything seems easier than MM Player.

I'd download a trial and play with it. If I were starting over again I'd go with TealMovie, but I've used Kinoma since I got the T3 and frankly don't feel like "switching over everything" all over again in a new "format."

There are MANY improvements, as new as a few days old, to TealMovie and I had a brief look at it - like I say, I'd go with it if I weren't so "married" to Kinoma at this point (I'm not converting any new film clips lately - the current "stock" is enough).

The biggest boast I think TealMovie has is its ability to REALLY compact things - stats are available from Tealpoint's literature and in the trial. Sorry I couldn't give exact info.

HI again!

Thanks for the info but I have MM & Kinoma but still unable to view MPEGs. Isn't that strange? I can play videos and see my photos but when trying to store a map or whatever it just doesn't want to work. Any thoughts? Hmmm.

Cheers! :)

I dont understand..tell us precisely what types of files you are trying to use...MPEG is a generic term, what sort of mpeg? waht viseos can you play, what 'maps' are you referring to??

more info!!

HI!

For example: maps from Yahoo (bitmap), videos (usually all okay except for the WMP ones, strange!), some JPEGs ... all very weird.

CHeers :)

You don't need a video player to view bitmap or JPEG files. You need an image viewer, such as the Photos app that comes bundled with the T3. There are other picture apps, but haven't tried them.

I'm not quite sure what format WMP files are. Do you mean Windows Media Player? Is it supposed to be audio or video?
