How To: Use Nokia PC Suite on a Mac

Here's a guide for the 3% of computer users that use Macs and Nokias :
How to Use Nokia PC Suite on a Mac

It is also useful for using the Mac with the Software Updater.

I thought I would give this thread a bump since I'm contemplating a mac in the future and this read was thoughtful. I just wish there was a bootcamp solution as opposed to this "parallels" which looks like virtualpc

Hmm, if you are using bootcamp, you will basically boot into windows on your mac. I don't think it should be a problem to run the nokia pc suite then. I haven't heard any1 try it though.

All I know is I have a mac w/ Parallels installed (really never use it much, but thought it would be interesting to give it a try). I haven't installed Boot Camp. Either way, after all the horror stories I've heard, there is no way I would try to do an firmware update on a Mac--not that I've heard about any problems with Macs and updates--just that this update thing is touch and go anyways, why throw another factor into the equation. I installed the update utility on my Media Center PC yesterday, and did the update and everything worked out just fine--good enough for me.

Both, though I've only updated the software on my 6682 and only one time at that. The connection (via supplied cable) with my e61 seems kind of precarious. I might try to try another cable before the software update.

I havent even bothered installing PCSuite in Parallels. I just don't have any need. The phone syncs w/ iCal and AddBook via iSync. I install files by BTing them to the phone and running the install from there. I have hooked up the usb cable to the mac and ran the phone in Mass Storage mode--works perfectly fine, shows you only the mem card (not the C: drive) but otherwise, no problems.

It was just a novelty for me, something to do when I couldn't sleep. I really only plan to use Boot Camp for any software updates I can't do with the mac. I was pretty surprised that the E61 mounts on the desktop. This is my fourth s60 phone, but so far the only one that could be connected to the mac via usb. Same with the bluetooth "browse device" feature. Maybe it's just the updates to 10.4 that are allowing me to do this stuff and not the phones themselves.

enough of my rambling

Parallels is mostly a good option for Windows programs you need to run on a mac like Quicken. The bluetooth connection on a mac is the all you will ever need for your Nokia phone. I used it with my 6682 and Inever had a need for the suite.
