how to use Civilization II: Fantastic Worlds Expansion?

I just got my husband the Civilization II: Fantastic worlds expansion. He does have the Civilization II game already installed. Neither one of us our used to expansion packs so we are not sure if we need to click an icon to get to the expansion or if it should load onto the already existing Civilization game?
