how to unlock i phone 3g i am new to i phone

hi friends can any one say me how to unock i phone 3g, one thing i need to ask before unlock is how to find out wether the phone is unlocked or locked does it show any message and how to find the version of the phone

u can unlock it very easily ... restore with itunes to version 4.0.1 then jailbreak it with redsnow 095 selecting firmware 4.0 and do unlock with cydia using ultrasnow 093...

to check if it is locked or not try different sims if they worked then unlocked...
