"How to Train Your Dragon" Talkback (Spoilers)

Great movie. The best since Shrek 2. I mean, yeah, Kung Fu Panda was great too but this movie succeeded better as an adventure film than Panda did.

I really think the father/son relationship and the relationship Hiccup has with Toothless are interesting. Astrid is cool, but it was kind of like with Aladdin.

Hiccup: "Ahhhhh, ahh , aahh , ahhh, aahhh... shimmeringly, shiningly splenda! Tell me Viking Lady, when did you last get me my coffee?"

Astrid: "Unbelievable frights... indescrible kill-err, I mean, FEELINGS!"

"I can open your eyes... take you wonder by wonder. So, come on, Astrid. When did you last let your heart decide? A whole new WORLD. A dazzling place we never knew. But when we're on a dragon, whose spinning us around and around, it's crystal clear. That now we're in a whole new world... uh, yeah!"

:anime::p:);):cool::D

how cool would that be if they had a love song in the movie ? :p...

I guess they could've also done that in Hercules .. but Pegs had other things in mind.. I bet toothless was the same way ;)

Honestly, I'd rather that they didn't have any songs in this movie.

I mean, I have nothing against musical numbers because I'm a music guy myself, but when it comes to a movie like How to Train Your Dragon, I honestly don't think it's necessary to have any music numbers in there.

HTTYD is great just the way it is and as much as I like musical numbers, I think it would spoil this film.

Any movie that can have an ending like...

...the hero getting dismembered...

...and have it as a believable happy-end without even a trace of bittersweet is a winner in my book. IMO, that was very well-played. Heck, poetic even, since the movie pretty much begins with...

...Hiccup crippling Toothless.

So now they depend on each other. Very sweet way for a pet movie to end.

Dang, can I type freely yet? It's been a weekend.

Also, I can see why it was so heavily compared to Lilo and Stitch by the critics. Though, instead of a doglike alien, we now have a catlike dragon. I was in stitches when Toothless did the "butt wiggle". Don't even get me started on the "catnip". :narf:

This is the talkback thread for "How to Train Your Dragon": Slap It Hard on the Nose

Maxie Zeus thinks it's the best DreamWorks movie yet...although that really isn't saying much considering what he's thought of the others...

I finally saw it today, and here are my thoughts:

I loved it. It was no Kung Fu Panda, but it was still a solid film. Dreamworks is really growing on me.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why I liked it, I just did. I don't know how much sense that makes.

btw, what was the song at the end of the flim or film credits? you can post in Spoiler tags if you like..

I hope it wasn't Disco inferno or We Didn't start the Fire:sad:

Saw it, surprisingly loved it. I think everything has been said that needed to be said in this thread already.

Somehow, "you just pointed at all of me" never stopped being funny. ;)

What I love about HTTYD is just that this is a pinnacle for Dream Works. Look how far they've come and how much better they've gotten. They still have their style and humor (I can tell b/c it's the same flavor from ten years ago up until now) and yet they've just become more sophisticated with their story telling and the depth of their stories only continue to deepen. It's cool, indeed. ;)

I think the review was a little harsh. Heck, anyone with half a brain can pick out that the "vikings" were more stereotypes than actual vikings. However, I don't think the movie went in with even half the intention of being "realistic". It's a fairytale more than anything. Unless somebody can point out to me which vikings in history fought dragons. :P

Personally, I found the "mall rats" were funny without getting to the point of annoying. And sheesh, while we're making comparisons, Harry Potter (that is, THE BOOKS) went there far more than this movie did, and that was despite being very UK-ish. (From the stereotypical bullying and nerds-vs-jocks, to the whole-crowd-of-kids-stuffing-themselves-into-phone-booth, Harry Potter practically shoved high-school-isms down your throat. Don't get me wrong, that's one of the reasons I loved 'em, in the "remember when" sense.)

It sounds more like the author of the review wanted the movie to be something it's not. *shrug*

Eh, it's expected really, that unless it's Pixar, a CGI movie won't really be loved in this site. XD

And speaking of unwarranted hate, Bum reviews How to Train Your Dragon.

Like some of his negatively-seen reviews, this one was iffy - his complaints were pretty much answered in the movie.

Hiccup did want to kill a dragon and only actually stopped wanting to kill them after knowing what was happening to them, the dragons do eat food outside of what they offer to the Dragon Queen, the Dragon Queen itself has a control over the dragons a la queen bee, the insides of a dragon are very vulnerable, it was Toothless himself along with Hiccup who fought the dragon using the Queen Dragon's strength against itself.

So I can't really agree that the movie has plot holes. Also, Vikings aren't limited to a single accent. :P
