How to test for the Hydrogen ion?

Does anyone know how to test for the Hydrogen ion in a solution.

Also, is it possible to test for this ion if it is in a compound for example HCO3, or HNO3

Hydrogen ion isn't like regular hydrogen. To test for the hydrogen, you test the pH (power of hydrogen). The lower the pH, the more hydrogen ion. The higher the pH, the more hydroxide ion. Buy some litmus paper, pH paper, or make some red cabbage juice. That will work for you.
